Just as our homes may seem at times, they can become unorganized. This can happen to tack rooms very easily too. Don't let your tack room be overlooked! Keep scrolling to see some organization tips to keep your tack room spotless.
Categorize Items
Categorizing items is the easiest way to have an organized tack room. Seperating fly sprays, shampoos, and blankets will make it easier to find them when you need them. I like to keep all the same kind of items together on a shelf, and smaller items such as brushes can be in a drawer. To store blankets and sheets, I prefer to have a seperate bag for each one. You can find blanket storage bags here.
Store Items in a Cabinet or on a Shelf
After you have categorized your items in different sections, put them on a shelf or in a cabinet. A simple wire shelf will do, or you can use a cabinet. I prefer a cabinet, as everything will be in an enclosed space and protected from dust, rodents, and bugs. If you decide to use a cabinet, I recommend having one with wheels so you can easily move it if needed.
Have a Saddle Rack
Storing your saddle on a saddle rack is so important to helping your saddle have a long life. Having your saddle stored incorrectly can cause damage to your saddle, and it won't be the form it needs to be on your horse. Depending on how many saddles you have, you can choose a rack that holds multiple saddles or one saddle. If you have a saddle rack for only one saddle, those often have hooks for hanging a bridle. Some saddle racks may also have a tray at the bottom to store a saddle pad.
Some saddle racks can be mounted on the wall, while others can freely stand sitting on the floor. If you are trying to maximize your floor space, then a wall mounted saddle rack may work best for you. I prefer to have my saddle covered with something, as this can help keep it clean from dust. There are also saddle covers that you can purchase to put on your saddle.
As for hanging bridles, you can purchase a bridle hanging rack to mount on the wall. Some horse owners even categorize their bits and seperate them from the bridles.

Have a Rack for Saddle Pads
Storing your saddle pads correctly will help extend their life of usage, just like saddles. It is important to not store the pad under your saddle, as it won't be able to air out from being on your horse. There are many options for racks specifically just for saddle pads, you can check them out here.
Store Feed in Enclosed Containers
If you don't have a seperate space for a feed room, then storing your feed in the tack room may be a great option. It's just important to keep your feed seperate from the tack and gear. When storing horse feed, you need to have a tightly sealed storage container so no rodents can access it. If you feed your horse multiple supplements, you can consider having them packaged in SmartPaks. SmartPaks are tightly sealed, and packaged to keep your horse's supplements fresh. SmartPak also has storage drawers that are handy to have for your horse's supplements or other things.
Use Storage Containers for Small Items
For items such as bell boots and splint boots, a simple storage container will work great. This will help keep them organized and keep them clean. Any other small items you may not have a place for can also go into a storage container.
