How to Keep Birds out of your Horse Barn

Updated: Jan 4

The sound of birds chirping and horses neighing in the morning is a delightful sound, umtil the birds create a mess in your barn. Birds tend to find places in barns to build their nests, and in result you have birds flying everywhere and leaving their mark on your belongings! I had this same problem with my horse barn for a long time, but after trying a few different approaches, I finally found the solution.

Cover the areas where birds are building nests

Birds tend to build nests in places that are more enclosed and harder for us to get to. The best way to help prevent this is to cover the areas so the birds cannot access them. Depending on the area you are trying to block access to, you can use materials such as wood or metal. You can head to your local hardware store to get some ideas of what would work best for you.

Birds can become a nussiance when they build nests in your barn.

Use fake snakes

Some people say that if you have a fake owl that this will scare birds away. I have not tried this myself, but I have used fake snakes. A great family friend told me that snakes will scare birds away, so it was worth a try. You can purchase plastic snakes and put them in the areas where birds are building their nests. After putting these fake snakes in different areas of my barn, the birds were gone! I couldn't believe how well this worked, and I haven't seen hardly any birds since.

Use products made for deterring birds

There are a few different options for items to deter birds away such as flash tape or bird scare rods. I haven't tried any of these options, but they may work for you.

Deterring birds can become difficult, you just have to try out different methods and see what works best for you. With these suggestions, you can keep birds out of your horse barn!
