Ever wish you lived in medieval times where you could experience jousting and sword fighting? Well, you can! At the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament, you can be a guest at the castle and watch the medieval games. When arriving at the castle, you are given a paper crown that is the color of the knight you cheer on during the show.
You are seated and served a feast that consists of garlic bread, soup, roasted chicken, herb-basted potato, a side, and a chocolate eclair. There are options for food allergies such as gluten-free, vegetarian, and a kosher meal. Your feast is served one side at a time, so you don’t get it all at once. You also have to eat everything with your hands, but can request silverware if you’d like.
To begin the show, the crowd is introduced to the knights fighting for who will protect the throne. You will also encounter the royal falconer, master of the horse, and squires. The guests get to watch the majestic Andalusians perform dressage movements. The other horses featured in the show are quarter and Friesan horses.
Each horse is raised at Times Chapel Creek Ranch in Sanger Texas. The ranch is 250 acres and has more than 150 horses. After each horse has turned 3 years old, they are sent to one of the nine castles to start training. There are castles located in Florida, California, New Jersey, Illinois, Texas, South Carolina, Maryland/Washington D.C., Georgia, and Arizona. There is also a castle in Toronto, Canada.
To be a knight at Medieval Times, no horse experience is required. Each knight is crafted to the show’s desires, and the show needs certain equestrian skills. Most, if not all the knights have long hair, so if you are thinking of applying, grow out your hair first!
Besides watching the horses perform, the jousting and medieval games are very exciting. Once two knights are left after winning a certain amount of games, they sword fight until the end to see who will win. This is when the crowd gets cheering for their knight! After the show you can check out the gift shop and bring a souvenir home with you.
Do you have a little princess that would love to visit the castle or even just a family night out? Medieval Times is perfect for the whole family to enjoy and is an unforgettable experience.
