A Message to the Barn Dads

Updated: Mar 14, 2023

If a father gets the chance to let his daughter have a horse, then he should feel fortunate he was a part of that. Most dads give their kids a puppy or kitten. Some kids ask for a dog or a goldfish…. but then there’s the girl who wants a horse instead of any other ordinary pet.

Most young girls ask their dad for a pony, but then later decide they want a puppy instead. For me, I always wanted a horse and never settled for anything else. When I got the opportunity to have my own horse, my dad agreed to bring her home.

Dads who have horse-loving daughters know it’s not easy to live the equestrian life. Dads take time to tack up their daughters horse and brush it down when the ride is over. Barn Dads have to get up early and take their daughter to a horse show.

If it wasn’t for my dad, my horse wouldn’t be at her forever home. He believed that I could handle having a horse and take responsibility. My dad continues to take part in my horse’s daily care and helps do what I can’t do.

So to all the dads out there, thank you for letting your daughter have a horse. Your daughter is learning responsibility and gaining new skills. If you’re a dad that can’t decide to let your child have a horse, then I am here to tell you that it’s worth it. Having a horse will change your daughter’s life. Having a horse changed my life for the better, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.
